Rock Collection

• A collection of 12”x12” Natural Slate Tiles. Natural Slate brings a wide range of colors and earthy, warm quality to any tile application.  With its range of shade and texture it’s a beauty that is hard to surpass.

The Advantages:

• Slate is a very durable and hard wearing product and is suitable for sue on the floor.
• The bottom of the slate tile has been machine-honed so it is either a flat, smooth surface or a machine-ribbed finish, making it suitable for the standard thin set mortar application of installation.  The top is a riven surface showing its natural, uneven split from the rock face.
• Slate tile does need a little more in the way of maintenance compared to ceramic or porcelain tile, but its unique qualities and appearance are often preferred to man-made products.  Initial sealing of the stone is done prior to closing.  Re-application of sealer by the homeowner is recommended every 2-3 years dependant on the use of the area.
• Slate is highly resistant to damage, as long as it is applied to a solid substrate.  If the sub-floor prior to the slate installation is flexible (for example, a thin plywood sub-floor), the slate could crack like any other tile.  It is therefore very important to have an adequate substrate prior to installation.  We install a full mesh and cement base under all floor jobs we do which makes for a very strong, level substrate for any tile / stone application.
